My opinion
I know Lee Child and I’ve already read something from him but I didn’t know the character Jack Reacher at all. That means I wasn’t aware of the fact that Tom Cruise looks like a dwarf compared to the main character from the book. So it didn’t bother me at all. Tom Cruise playing in it wasn’t reassuring. He’s not exactly my fav actor.
I have to admit that he’s doing his job professionally and with dedication. Wether he plays the brother of an autist, a pilot or a secret agent. As an ex-commando-military and almost superhero, he’s a bit of a lightweight. But in the end I enjoyed watching this entertaining action / thriller.
The openingscene immediately sets the tone. I found it grim to watch. The cold-blooded way that innocent bypassers were being shot, gave me a nasty feeling and made my stomach shrink. What follows is a succession of sometimes funny moments, action scenes, brawls and a (very well portrayed) chase.
I thought it was a little bit disappointing to see that the charismatic “The Zec” was eliminated so easily. A plus was the performance of Robert Duvall. I think he’s a top actor with his typical appearance and specific way of talking. All in all, not a high flyer but still a very fascinating film.
